SALARY FACTS:

  1. Your total salary reflects a nine (9) week program (45 days total) beginning Monday, June 17th and ending Friday, August 17th. There is also additional pay for 2 1/2 days of MANDATORY pre-camp staff training. Drivers and Bus Counselors receive additional pay for 2-4 days of Driver Training. Picking up and dropping off campers (1 to 2 hours per day) greatly increases your total salary plus you save on gas mileage and wear and tear on your own car.
  2. All salaried staff are covered by Worker's Compensation Insurance should an accident or injury occur to you while in the performance of your job.
  3. All transportation personnel are covered by the camp vehicular insurance while in the performance of the duty of transporting children.
  4. There is extra pay for special events such as Friday Night Overnights. These overnights are voluntary.
  5. Pay days are bi-monthly falling on approximately the 3rd & 17th of each month.
  6. We are required by law to deduct a specific percentage of salary earned for the following: FICA (Social Security), Federal Income Tax, State Income Tax and SDI (State Disability Insurance) and FUTA (Federal Disability).
  7. Attendance at pre-camp transportation training meetings is a mandatory requirement for All drivers. Drivers will receive up to three (3) days extra salary for training. Bus Counselors will receive extra pay for attendance at their meetings and practice runs. Pay for transportation training will be received on your first pay check.
  8. Cali-Camp is open July 4th.
  9. In order to receive remuneration credit for past experience, your experience must be verified in writing on our employment verification form or letterhead from previous employers, or by phone, prior to the first day of camp.
  10. All employees are subjected to drug and alcohol testing at any time during the period of employment. Should any of the aforementioned test results indicate positive use, or if employee refuses to be tested, then employee shall be immediately suspended and/or terminated.
  11. All paid staff members receive salary for days in attendance only. Deductions for absenteeism will be made on the first payroll date following the absence.
  12. Summer camp employees are temporary and seasonal; therefore, are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
  13. All summer staff are observed daily, weekly, evaluated twice during the summer, (mid-summer - formal and post summer - informal). Staff members are invited to return the following summer based upon their job performance. Letters of invitation to return are mailed in January prior to the next camp season.

TO COMPUTE YOUR SALARY:

  1. Begin with the appropriate base salary for counselor or specialist
  2. Add your additional skills and experiences to base salary
  3. Add your transportation/driver/supervisor/pre-post supervisor salary.
  4. Your total salary would then be divided by 50 days to get your daily rate.

   $526.38/week

Counselor = $2,610.00 or Specialist = $2,236.25.00

E. Tutoring:  
   250 hours $25.00
F. Private Instruction:  
   250 hours $25.00
G. Volunteer Work:  
   500 hours $25.00
H. Volunteer Junior Counselor:  
   1 summer $25.00
   2 summers $50.00
   3 summers $75.00
I. Specialized Activity Director:  
   Supervision of assistants at Horses and Pool only!  
   Supervision allowance per assistant $50.00
J. Water Safety Instructor Certificate (WSI):  
   Applies to Swim Staff and Counselors only $150.00
K. Lifesaving Certificates (Red Cross, YMCA or equivalent)  
   Applies to Swim Staff and Counselors only $100.00
L. CPR Certificate $50.00
M. Standard First Aid Certificate $75.00
N. California State Bus Driver's Certificate $50.00
