Dear Prospective Cali Camp Staff Member,

Hi, and thank you for your interest in pursuing a summer position at Cali Camp at Big Rock Ranch. Staff members come to us from all walks of life, ethnic backgrounds and parts of the world – looking for meaningful leadership experiences and lifelong memories.

We believe that working at Cali Camp will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life!

We are dedicated to helping you to develop skills and gain valuable organizational experience that will be useful in your future career. We will provide for you the opportunity to develop leadership techniques, creativity, teamwork, problem solving, decision making and, most of all, people skills. Supervisory Positions

Junior Leader Team Leader

Oversee and implement  Junior Leader Training Program, act as liason between Junior Leaders and Senior Staff, observe trainees during camp day, assign trainees to groups and specialty areas weekly, plan and lead JuniorLeader  interview, plan and lead weekly meetings, organize trainee evaluation process. Must be willing to possess Class B license and go through provided training to obtain one in order to be a driver (if qualified). Complete job description available upon request.

Daily hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Salary range begins at $2,500.00 base for summer plus extra pay for pre-camp planning meetings and setup, Junior Leader interview, open houses, staff training and driver training (if qualified). May also apply as a Driver. Salary is based on a 40 hour week.

 Staff Team Leaders

Position is a full time commitment of 9 weeks. Position is, basically supervisory and evaluatory in nature. Must possess Class B license or be willing to go through provided driver training and be a driver of a route on a daily basis. Staff Supervisors are responsible for a group of approximately 15 counselors and assistant staff. Staff Supervisors are responsible for the groups of children assigned to the counselors in all aspects of the camp day i.e. Counselors of Grades 6-8, Counselors of Grades 4-5, Counselors of Grade 3, Counselors of Grade 2, Counselors of Grades K-1. Must be able to assist assigned counselors with daily camp policies and procedures, area procedures, program ideas and implementation, camper control, discipline techniques and group management and communication with parents when needed. Must assist Director in supervision of the lunch area at various times during the day. Must be able to oversee and manage group lost and found program and camper morning "Circle Time". Must be able to, under the direction of supervisor, evaluate both formally and informally all counselors, assistants and junior staff assigned to them.

Daily hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Salary range begins at $2,500.00 base for summer plus extra pay for pre-camp planning meetings and setup, open houses, staff training and driver training (if qualified). Salary is based upon a 40 hour week (includes daily driving).

 Inclusion Coordinator

Position is a full time commitment of 9 weeks. Position is, basically supervisory and evaluatory in nature. Must possess Class B license or be willing to go through provided driver training and be a driver of a route on a daily basis. Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for children with special needs, assigned to the counselors in all aspects of the camp day. Pre-Camp parental communication begins prior to camp, placement of children with special needs into camp groups, overall supervision of campers and groups, dealing with parents, aides and campers. Must be able to assist counselors with daily camper behavior, activity level and ideas and implementation, camper control, discipline techniques and group management and communication with parents when needed. Salary range begins at $3,000.00 base for summer plus extra pay for pre-camp planning meetings and setup, open houses, staff training and driver training (if qualified). Salary is based on a 40 hour week (including driving).

Program Team Leaders (2)

Responsible for the physical operation of the daily program special events (under direct supervision of Camp Director), supervision of selected activity areas, plus a variety of administrative tasks. The tasks are divided amongst two individuals. They are; but not limited to: organizing and implementing daily program (Themes change weekly), beach trips, camper awards, lost and found, daily directives, riddle of the week, group hikes, secret pal program, bulletin boards, master weekly theme-event calendar and lunch games. Must possess Class B license or be willing to go through provided training and to be a substitute driver. Complete job description available upon request.

Daily hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Salary range begins at $2,500.00 for summer plus extra pay for pre-camp planning meetings and setup, open houses, staff training and driver training (if qualified). Salary is based on a 40 hour week.

Camp Counselor Positions

Assistant Staff Member

Must be at least 16 years of age by the first day of camp. Applicants must possess a basic knowledge of recreational activities and have the enthusiasm, patience, desire and leadership skills to assist counselors guide 15-20 campers through 6 Activity Periods of the camp day. Must also participate in a wide variety of camp special activities with campers, assist with Circle Time, lunch procedures and snack procedures. Must attend 2 day Mandatory Staff Training. Position is full time, Monday through Friday for 9 weeks.

Salary is $272.20 per week for a 40 hour work week, includes assisting bus counselors on the bus to and from camp.

 CILT - Camper in Leadership Training Counselor

Leadership experience at Cali-Camp in a Senior Camp Counselor position for at least one summer is a plus, but not mandatory. Must be able to plan and implement daily participatory leadership training program (similar to staff training) for campers grades 6-8 (ages 12 - 14) and possess basic knowledge of recreational activities. C.I.L.T. Specialty Program operates for nine (9) one (1) week sessions. The position requires pre-camp organizational and training time. Must attend 2 day Mandatory Staff Training. May also apply as a driver (if qualified) due to weekly beach trips.

Base salary is that of a specialist plus experience, plus driving.

NEW in 2012 - Skateboarding / BMX riding experience preferred. Experience with children preferred. Must be able to assist specialist teach campers grades 1 - 9 (ages 6 - 14) in skateboarding and bmx riding on half pipe and skate playground activities. Campers participate in one (1) week sessions. Applicants must possess a basic knowledge of recreational activities and have the enthusiasm, patience, desire and leadership skills to supervise and guide approximately 10 campers (with assistance of Assistant, Co-counselor or Volunteer Junior Counselors, age 14-17) through 3 Camp Activity Periods in addition to skateboarding / bmx riding are taught each day. Resources and training for these positions are provided. Campers participate in one (1) week sessions. Equestrian Camp Counselor

Equestrian Camp operates for nine (9) one (1) week sessions. Equestrian Camp Counselor must have some horsebackriding experience and be willing to assist Equestrian Camp Instructional staff teach techniques of horsebackriding. Equestrian Camp Counselors rotate throughout the day with the campers to Horsebackriding and 3 camp activities. The position requires pre-camp organizational and training time.  Academic Specialist

Academic Specialty Camp operates 1/2 day in the mornings and then campers have 1/2 day camp activities in the afternoon. Credentialed elementary teacher preferred, to instruct children in small groups, grades 1-8 (ages 6 - 13) in reading, math or grammar. Must be able to diagnose and prescribe instruction to meet individual needs. Three (3) hours per day (mornings).

Salary range $18 - $20 per hour.

 Arts & Crafts Specialist

Teaching experience preferred. Must be able to organize a creative arts and crafts program for children grades Kindergarten - 1 - 8 (ages 5.6-14), order supplies, give direction to staff working with their groups, maintain a neat and orderly facility and coordinate counselor supply requests. New expanded activities to include, but not limited to, ceramics, leather-works, robot making, macrame, candle making and woodworking projects. Hours 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM, M - F.  Ropes/Challenge Course – Climbing Wall Specialists

Climbing experience a real plus. Experience with teaching children would be helpful, but Cali-Camp provides a free 2 day certification course and orientation. Must be able to organize and teach climbing skills to groups of children grades 3-8 (ages 8 - 13) with the assistance of counselors. Adventure area contains both ropes and climbing and the staff rotate between high ropes, challenge course and climbing. Must be able to enforce established safety regulations, identify and manage environmental and other hazards related to the activity and apply emergency health care procedures related to the activity and the participants. Must possess ability to give direction to counselors working with their groups and maintain a safe and FUN area. May also apply as a driver (if qualified).

Equestrian Camp Coordinator

Experience with English Horsebackriding instruction required. CHA certificate preferred (Cali-Camp is also willing to provide training for you). CPR and Standard Advanced First Aid certificates required (we train). Must be able to organize and implement Equestrian program for campers grades 1 - 9 (ages 6.0 - 14) utilizing approximately 30 horses and 4-5 ponies (3,4,5 year olds). Must be able to organize Equestrian Camp instruction and staff assignments. Strong leadership skills are required to assist in supervision of staff of riding instructors and Junior Equestrian program for older campers in a safe and fun environment. May not apply as a driver due to AM and PM responsibilities. Must have own transportation.
