junior leader program

do you want to become a

Junior Leader?

Cali Camp’s Junior Leader “JL” program is offered to teenagers 14-15 years of age.  This program provides training experiences in leadership with children, peers and adults in a recreational setting.  They also provide an opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills, build positive self images and enhance self esteem.  We believe our programs are an excellent learning experience for everyone involved.

Junior Leaders

JL's rotate weekly into different Cali Camp groups, this way they get experience working with different ages, genders and specialties. During the course of the summer JLs participate closely with a variety of Counselors and Specialists. In addition to these group responsibilities, the JLs also have a leadership class once a day to develop their skills in working with children and peers.

We expect JLs to participate in all camp activities with their group of campers, and even schedule in some time once a week to let loose at an activity with their fellow JLs.

The 2024 Jr. Leader ‘Group Interview’ date is May 1st from 4 - 6:30pm. You must have applied to the program and be invited to attend the JL interview.

  • All JLs must be 14 prior to the first day of camp, or be entering the 9th grade. Cali Camp operates for 9 weeks. Although many JLs participate for all 9 weeks of the summer, we request a minimum of 6 weeks participation. This allows for greater skills progression and development throughout the summer.

This program costs $1025 for the summer.

  • Please visit our website, calicamp.com, and register through the site. Your parents may need to help you register (you will be registering as a camper since you must be 16 to be eligible to apply as paid staff). Once you have registered we will contact you about signing up for the group interview, which takes place in May. The first meeting is an interview for all first time Junior Leaders only! We are looking for positive role models and young adults who are prepared to actively participate in group introductions, games and skits. Upon completion of the activities an evaluation and selection is made by the Camp Leadership Team. Once the interview is complete and you have been accepted into the program there are no refunds. If you are not accepted into the program you will not be charged.

  • Mandatory leadership training is an integral part of the junior leader program as it teaches JLs how our camp works, what will be expected of them, and how to be ready for their first day. Pre-Camp Training for Junior Leaders will be held in conjunction with our paid staff training on the weekends before camp begins.
